Training

Trainings on animal welfare ORCA is conducting different trainings related to the welfare of farm animals during keeping and raising on farms, transport and slaughter. These trainings are aimed and adapted to various target groups. VOLUNTARY TRAININGS During the “Welfare for All” project, ORCA had conducted the following trainings:

  • Trainings for farmers and their associations

Trainings for farmers and their associations were conducted in order to introduce farmers with different concepts in animal welfare and to transfer skills and knowledge about the implementation of farm animal welfare standards in their farm practices. The participants were also introduced to farm practices that ensure better welfare of pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry. Information regarding ways in which animal welfare impacts better animal productivity was also given to participants, and the discussion was held about how could more profit be acquired by selling higher quality food products produced in line with higher farm animal welfare standards.

  • Trainings for agricultural advisory services

Trainings for agricultural advisory services at the Ministry of Agriculture were conducted in order to transfer skills and knowledge about farm animal welfare and welfare assessment to the agricultural advisors. They will use their newly acquired knowledge during regular work activities of giving advice to farmers in order to help them to ensure better animal welfare on their farms.

  • Trainings for veterinary inspection

Trainings for veterinary inspection of the Veterinary office at the Ministry of Agriculture were conducted in order to strengthen the capacity of state authorities for efficient enforcement of the EU legislation related to animal welfare. The participants were trained to competently assess welfare of animals on farm, by observing all three components of animal welfare – physical, mental and behavioral, as well as observing whether the resources available and the conditions in which animals are living are enabling them to meet their natural needs. MANDATORY TRAININGS Animal Welfare Act (“Official gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, no. 41/09) provides mandatory trainings on animal welfare for persons who are included directly or indirectly in the enforcement process of animal welfare legislation. By passing appropriate secondary legislation, the conditions were met for conducting particular trainings. ORCA has been officially authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection to conduct following trainings on animal welfare provided by Animal Welfare Act:

  • Training on animal welfare during transport
